///He rose to fame for playing the loud-mouthed, chauvinistic, homophobic, sexist and racist Garnett.
Mitchell was in reality a left-wing socialist, the antithesis of the character he immortalised///

I loved his "you silly moo!"
RIP Warren.
Sad news but a good innings for someone who took on such a high profile and controversial role, in the days of three-channel, 20 million ratings TV. Shame on me for thinking he was long gone but I'd missed the news, that day. It would be a pity if it was swamped out by other news of the day so thanks for posting this, Balders.
RIP Warren.

In the 60s, we went to the same night school , he to learn the trumpet, me to learn cooking. Suffice to say, his lessons paid off , mine did not. I met him many times at the school. He was a lovely man, very quiet , very polite. RIP Mr Mitchell.
In his role as Alf Garnett, he was the spitting image of my Granddad.R I P Warren Mitchell.
I think you will find he did time in Oz for child abuse in the sixties
