Like Jewish jokes being acceptable if made between / by Jewish people, or like black people in the same situation, the acceptability lies in this being humour generated from within a group. It's the difference between self-reflective irony (or lame attempts at same) and sneering.

I asked this question after witnessing a spat between Aldi Ray and Mo Ansar on Twitter.


A very entertaining spat between an actor (Adil Ray) who on screen plays a self appointed community leader and Mohammed Ansar who is a self appointed community leader!
