On AOG's thread Ludwig wondered about having to follow the rules about which side of the road to drive on......

Ludwig...breaking that rule causes chaos!

I exited a car park today onto a two lane one way street....I stayed in the right hand lane because I was intending to turn right.....until....the little red car whizzed around the corner ahead of me.....into my lane.

I'm not a horn blaster or shouter when driving....but I did stop quickly...well we were almost bonnet to bonnet by then.

I smiled at the lady....she and her friend were having a great laugh about it.. and pointed to the one way signs.....I thought she had made a mistake and would reverse back.....or at least stay where she was. No.....She crept closer towards me....slowly...but worryingly.....

After much signing and mouthing we established that she wanted to go into the car park....through the exit opening and by going the wrong way on a one way street....well it's quicker that way....not for her the big loop to the far end of the road to enter where it says....enter...☺

So....we (there was quite a queue behind me now) all indicated left and one by one the traffic in the left lane let us in and we went around her.....

I imagine we all thought that persuading her to reverse around a corner might be far more dangerous.....x

Sounds like a friend of mine.I was in her Jag and we came to a queue of traffic. " I don't do queues" she said and drove to the front. Amazingly the other drivers let her in.
I had to tell another driver in a car park that I was not driving the wrong way - I was going to the exit- the arrows were pointing the wrong way. He did get back in his car and gave me loads of room to get past....
On being a passenger in a friends car in the village where we live in France, I pointed out that he was driving the wrong way up a one way street. 'No it isn't' he said 'There isn't a sign'. When I showed it to him he said 'when did they put that up? 'two years ago' said I. 'Oh well is doesn't matter, I live here' quoth he. I can understand the tourists getting it wrong but....
I may be remembering this wrongly, but I'm sure my dad (a solicitor) once told me there was no law to say which side you had to drive on- it was just covered by other laws about dangerous driving??
That's right pixie, otherwise how could anyone overtake on a single carriageway? A friend of mine was driving with 'flair' on a country road when a police car caught up with him and stopped him.
Plod.. 'Driving quite a bit on the wrong side of the road weren't we sir?'
My Friend...'It's not against the law is it'?
Plod..'Errr.. no sir carry on'. o)

I must remember that there is no wrong side of the road....could come in useful....

I have one friend who scares the living daylights out of me.....but has an excuse/reason for every bump and accident she has....which is so long winded that you end up agreeing she's right....

In a small village, just after she passed her test, she entered the village's only one way street....when I pointed it out she assured me, in all seriousness that she was only going one way.....x
LOL gness, there is a wrong side if their are double white lines.

Ahh...I see, Jom.....is that whichever way you're going?...... ;-)
I think we should all be watching BBC1 at the moment, "Do you think you can Drive?" - it's very scary :-(

Oh...thanks, Boxy....had forgotten about that....now recording.

I must admit I do have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about driving.....I passed my test after six lessons and didn't feel that was enough so I took an advanced course then did a defensive driving day around Dublin with a policeman who was bodyguard and driver to the P.M.......that was fantastic.

I still love driving...but will I know when it's time to stop?....That's always a difficult one....I had to stop MrG who had been a really good driver....that was so hard....x
So gness, no road rage required then !.
