for a little village there is an awful lot going on, morals of alley cats, and more thievery than bankers in the City.

Question Author
so now Val is not speaking to Eric because he slept with her sister, good thing this isn't real life. x
Val has clearly forgotten why she is in the situation she is in now, double standards. As far as the village having a lot of goings on, how many streets have had as many murders and dodgy deaths as Coronation Street Reality would be very boring.
Complete twaddle at the moment - everything so far fetched. Fed up with the HIV story, sick of Val, stupid storyline about Brenda, but the worst is the ridiculous storyline about Nicola, Bernice and Anton. Really fed up with Emmerdale recently, have they changed the writers?
Question Author
don't know but finding it hard to keep up with it.
I didn't bother watching it today. The 'old' Diane wouldn't have slept with Eric, him being her sister's hubby. I've gone right off it. Stupid storylines.
And that scene where Bernice gave Anton a bloody nose and handcuffed him to the toilet cistern was ludicrous!
Did Val sleep with Eric then? I must have dropped off in that episode ;)
elliemay - yes just crazy wasn't it, I was getting very cross and shouting "stupid Emmerdale" at the TV!!!! I suppose I can't break the habit of watching it though! Where did the pink handcuffs come from? Her handbag? Did she have it with her when she kicked the door in?
Question Author
Val's sister Diane had a one night stand with Eric, how do they live with themselves, i ask you, would you..x
and this priya boring "pregnancy"
think all soaps are in a lull at moment
Question Author
priya is going to be bulimic, that is the storyline i think. she eats little then throws it up, she doesn't want to be fat, or that is how it's coming across.
Soap writers constantly tread a fine line between keeping things interesting enough to engage viewers' attention, without making things too ludicrous, given the extremely small physical areas in which soap characters live.

As with all soaps, the least analysis brings the entire edifice crashing down - a good deal of belief suspension is required to enjoy them.

It would appear from the range of observations here, that the writers are overdoing the 'drama' angle of things to a point where feasibility is creaking with the strain.

From my experience - although I haven't watched any soaps for years - the writers usually pull things back on track - these occasional 'off-piste' periods have to be endured until things swing around again.
Question Author
the current story lines are as follows,
Val slept with a bloke whilst she was estranged from her husband, unbeknownst she contracted HIV, she learns she has it when the fling goes to the village to tell her, so she does the decent thing, doesn't get tested and essentially pushes away her husband, who gets a bit lonely and pissed and does the dirty with Vals sister, who doesn't know her sister has been diagnosed with HIV, so could also have it

then there is Priya dumped by David who she was supposed to marry, and is now carrying his baby, whilst David prefers someone else.
so far so bad
Bernice goes on a blind date with a con artist, she doesn't know he is of course, who promptly handcuffs her to the bed and robs the house.
Brenda has become a kleptomaniac, Bob finds out, but doesn't understand
then of course there is the warring Dingles, who seem about as dysfunctional a family you would wish to meet.
Declan slimeball is up to his ears in dodgy deals, and Charity almost got her own kin Sam sent down for setting fire to Declans place, which he didn't. But she did manage to persuade Rachel to leave,
so much more, but that is surely enough for one evening.
Didn't Val sleep with Rodney when he was married to Diane?
Question Author
might have been before my time, i give it a miss sometimes, as i can't stand all the excitement.
You all must be too young to remember this programme. A Soap is what it is. Outrageous, silly, unbelievable and sometimes just plain stupid.
That's why we love them.
Question Author
this is the only one, i do find it incredibly far fetched.
Question Author
one of my all time favourites, with Billy Crystal as the gay son
Some of them were hilarious!
