why oh why is it necessary to bombard us with all these sugary coated, quite frankly stomach churning Christmas films long before the event is upon us.

i am aware you don't have to watch, but some channels have seemingly devoted their days and nights to showing this dross. Mostly American films of dubious vintage, filling the schedules no doubt. Try and find something interesting to watch is a lottery at any rate during the weekend, but more of this stuff is so unnecessary. Anything with Christmas in the title seems to be the order of the day. Bring back some light hearted programmes, and let us have some peace before the big day.

i actually love the Wizard of Oz, it's a great film and my favourite film is It's a Wonderful life, i meant the dross that's on now, every day, on so many channels and repeated each day, many of these schlocky types, so sugary one could overdose on it.
Question Author
one channel has a rolling list of these films, anything with Christmas in the title, as to Christmas music in shops, i could scream.
If they didn't show all the rubbish before Christmas we wouldn't appreciate all the fantastic movies they have saved for us to watch over the actual holiday, oh wait a minute. ;-)
There's now 2 such channels on Virgin - Xmas 24 and True Xmas, not forgetting the +1 channel as well.

Frank for one nano second i thought you were being serious.

i am now onto the dvd's and forget the rest of this rubbish.
i've seen many a wonderful film but i've never watched one twice
Question Author
the ones i am referring to are showing on a number of freeview channels,
the are sort of rolling them out each day, hour on hour, i confess that i have almost given up watching what is on general offer from the mainstream channels, much of that is dross as well. The odd drama like Sherlock, or even Doc Martin, but that is most definitely not Christmas fare thank goodness.
someone been o'ding on the grinch pills?
Question Author
no i haven't, do you watch them, will have to look at which channels are showing them like the rolling news.
I know, it's abysmal. Luckily I have NOW TV, and there are good films on there to watch. I can't stand the Wizard of Oz, but love It's a Wonderful Life, which I already have on DVD.
It's not so bad if they wait until the week before christmas (as they used to) but they've been on for weeks. Worse still are the epic adverts... instant mute button.
Bah! humbug :)
We still have Celebrity Christmas shows to endure as well and just had a look at the Christmas Day schedule and ITV are showing Love Actually which I hate, awful film. I will probably watch documentary and crime channels.
It is over the top. Channel 5, Christmas/24, and True Christmas all rubbish.
Those films that are produced by Larry Levinson Productions are the worst, so cheesy and schmaltzy.
There are only 4 Christmas films worth watching - Elf, Home Alone, The Muppets Christmas Carol and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
And that overrated film It's a Wonderful Life - what a load of old krapp, pass the razor blades. Bah Humbug! to that movie.
