I don't have access to the Sunday Times on the 'net, so I can't offer much more than I have above, but perhaps some kind soul could chip in with the full link.

I do, however, have the paper in front of me, and it look pretty devastating for the Met. 8 people have been arrested, including 5 Police Officers, for allegedly fabricating evidence, or leaking it to the media. Will the bl00dy Met never learn ?

Frome the ConservativeHome Blog

// splashed across the front page of today’s Sunday Times.  The paper reports that “a senior police officer has blown the whistle on what he claims was a conspiracy by Scotland Yard protection officers to “stitch up” [Mitchell]“.

The officer in question has apparently named “a police colleague whom he alleges “orchestrated” the plot to bring down Mitchell”.   He apparently received the information from a superior officer, and admits he does not have direct knowledge of the conspiracy he has outlined. Nonetheless, “his account is being taken seriously by the Met,” according to the Sunday Times, “which has described him as ‘potentially a key witness’ “.  A net may be closing in on a conspiracy…or then again it may not.  But whatever is the case, the conclusion is the same.  Mitchell is innocent, and should be restored to the Cabinet as soon as possible. //

Still got quite a way before this story is concluded.

I think the Police have quite enough time already Gromit. Its about time they pulled their fingers out and got on with it. Its almost certainly going to be bad news for the Met. but they can't put off the inevitable pain and embarrassment for any longer.

Many a true word spoken in jest?
I suppose they'll try to bury the bad news on the same day Crossrail opens

Gromit...I had forgotten about that post. It seems the Met can do whatever it likes. Lets hope they don't spill the beans and own up to this, on the same day that the Hillsborough Enquiry opens...what a good that would be to bury bad news.
Ach, at least it'll never happen again now that we have our own all powerful and almost unaccountable National Crime Agency trumping any and all law enforcement organisations.
I wonder where these paragons have been recruited from.
