I'm looking at second hand cars, and wonder if anyone can tell me what 284 litres of luggage capacity is in real dimensions - e.g 1 large case, or 2 large cases etc? It is a 2004 Fiesta, if that's any help. Thanks very much.

It doesn't work quite like that because the shape of the space determines what will fit into it, suitcase-wise. 284 litres is a smallish boot but quite reasonable for a supermini. I could tell you - that particular boot will hold 3070 ping-pong balls (true), but not that helpful.
There are lots of these cars about - I'd find somebody with one (or a dealer) and ask to look inside the boot.

Thanks Gingejbee - I had a look at one in a Ford dealer near us, but it was much newer than the car I'll be buying - and a good size in the back. Hopefully that won't have changed too much over the years. Maybe I'll wander round the large Asda carpark near us!
Genarally they are talking about the dimensions of a litre of water, ie a 10cm cube, so it can be any shape you like. eg 28.4x 0.1x0.1 metres.
