I think Roys intruder is himself, he has lost the plot of late, there doesnt appear to be any forced entry.
The place must be alarmed surely. Why hasnt he called the Police?

I agree, I think he has acute depression brought on by the shock of not being reconciled with his father and then losing his father all at the same time.
