Hi. My boss has just put cctv cameras above our work stations which have pretty much 360 vision but also we believe included is a microphone to record what the staff are saying to each how much of this is legal, surely there comes a point where this infringes our rights. Also the majority of staff are women who are beginning to feel very uncomfortable about being watched all day. We are not represented by any union and up till now have had no issue with the owner, we feel that we have no say or clout especially as we don't know if its legal or illegal. Please advise

my conts are pretty irrelevant but the others - perhaps ZS too - give a whole load of internet places which give useful info.

It looks as tho you should be unionising
unless you and your colleagues are gonna lie down and take it (some do)

good luck

you dont have to put up with it

For me as a man I can live with it but the females feel vey aware they are being spied on. It seems that the employer has more rights in this case, but i'll look into it further I think.
Thanks
As the CCTV is above workstations and not rest areas, locker rooms, toilets etc then really there is no infringement of privacy and the employer is within his rights.

An employee is not going to do anything intimate or private at the workstation after all; it is not covert and the staff are aware of it.
