when i was a young lad my sister had a single by david bowie called something like "laughing gnome".it seems a very odd song for such an icon of pop/rock.also it had b side called "gospel according to tony day". who is tony day? and again i say is this not a totally weird record for bowie to release,is there a good reason for it??..

further to my previous i now see there are many other names mentioned on this track.still think it bizarre tho..
Most of his early songs were odd- as well as Laughing Gnome check out Little Bombadier (unusual subject matter) and Over the Garden Wall (all coppers are 'nanas) as examples
the new one is a dirge, bring back the thin white duke, at least that was interesting..
Laughing gnome is a classic, one of the best things Bowie ever did. I would'nt say anything was too weird for him to record, he made his name by being unusual.
Recorded way before he was a success.

I suspect he was embarrassed by it later.
Mind you, I would rather listen to it than that rubbish he has put out this week.
