cupid, the doctor could have been handing out a poster campaigning against prostate cancer to put in the gents' loo or even telling Gloria she'd been accepted/rejected on his list - she's only just moved in to the area.
There is a thousand plausible reasons.

baza, I'm sure you are being light hearted but that simply isn't true.
My own GP called in to my neighbours twice a day, 7 days a week - early in the morning and late evening - when he was home dying of cancer
