I would like to buy my daughter some timeless books for bedtime reading She is 3 and I'm thinking along the lines of the hungry caterpillar, the tiger who came to tea, where the wild things are. Can anyone suggest any others. Many thanks

The House at Pooh Corner and all the Winnie the Pooh books are pretty good...maybe for a bit older than three, but they will last.
wind in the willows., any Dr Seuss.
Julia Donaldson's Gruffalo books are always loved by young children. So much scope for inventing silly voices for the characters.
All the Beatrix Potters.
Thomas the Tank Engine by Rev Awdry should go down well too especially if she has seen them on tv

Little Miss and Mr Men
Janet and Allan Ahlberg's picture books are also good, and Shirley Hughes' 'Dogger' is a tearjerker with a lovely ending
the Julia Donaldson books are all brilliant.. all my kids and nephews love them. I like that they are rhyming stories...
The Gruffalo
Monkey Puzzle
A squash and a squeeze
Snail and the whale
Room on the broom
Smartest giant in town
Tabby McTat
oh, and 'Each Peach Pear Plum' and 'Peepo' by Janet Ahlberg...
knowabit - Each, Peach, Pear, Plum is one of my faves as well!
my daughter is always telling me the story.. she does not need the book anymore!
The Katie Morag books set on a fictional island off the west coast of Scotland.
Katie is a rather feisty character, loved by all.
I loved Charlotte's Web when I was little.
I can only agree with a few of the posters above: Julia Donaldson has a great range of books for kids 3+.
Dont forget the Christopher Robin poems
My boys can still quote them
Mr and Mrs Large - an elephant family......I can still recite them from memory.
And when she's a bit older you simply must have "The Chronicles of Narnia"
Absolutely must have Roald Dahl and Peter Pan for when she's a bit older.

One book I always liked was Dogga (although I read it to my sisters and didn't ahve it myself). What about a bit of Meg and Mog too? I have started a book list for my nephew on amazon, and once I put a few in that i wanted for him, I then got loads of recoomendations.
I loved Babar the Elephant when I was little - can you still get the books?
Guess how much I love you by Sam McBratney
My cat likes to hide in boxes is an absoloute fav of my daughters and wheres my cow by terry prachett. Also Enid Blyton noddy naughty Amelia Jane etc
