Has anyone been watching the Olympic cycling with Mark Cavendish giving his analysis of events? He is a great competitor but, unfortunately, not a great commentator. He seemed to forget what he was talking about on a number of occassions an Jake Humphrey had to keep helping him to finishis sentances. Not a great start to a TV presenting role.

You have to blame the BBC for thinking every competitor can be a pundit. I think Mark did well enough considering he was thrown in at the deep end.
Well the BBC could say he was voted by BBC viewers as Sports Personality of the Year.
He comes over as a really nice bloke and can contribute but he does lack the polish of the other cycling pundit (I don't remember his name - the former Team GB rider who coaches and lives in USA now but sounds a bit Australian to me)
why they got him to do it is beyond me, he must be green with envy he is not in the mix to get medals, wouldn't that make you a bit off.
It does come across that Mr Cavendish is not endowed with massive brain power - he should stick to his knitting, cycling.
I've always been a big fan of Cavendish's exploits on the road, but must admit he did seem somewhat out of his depth as a commentator.
DT, he is a great rider, i just think that he is bewildered by being asked to present a sport that he wishes he could be part of. I bet he is kicking himself that he took up road racing, after all he so wants that gold medal..
em - I didn't say that he wasn't a great rider - he is. His brain is tuned on that though, not at lucid, intelligent and in-depth knowledge of the different formats of "velo". He could still have his day in Rio - but his first goal must be to overtake Hinault as the most-number-of-stages-won in the TdeF - believe he is in 4th with Lance Armstrong in his immediate sights and that he is just over 10 away from Bérnard.
DT, i know, but there is so much longing for that medal in his face, you can tell it as he is talking, and being asked his opinions, as the presenters go on about how brilliant our riders are, it must be like a knife in the guts.
Who cares what he sounds like, I wouldn't mind doing a few laps with him!
I think he has improved since he started when he really wasn't that good.
