The Olympics should be the pinnacle of your chosen sport, and for many it is. But it is plainly obvious that the football and tennis Olympic competitions don't matter nearly as much to the players as other big events they play in.

So , why is tennis / football ( and soon to be golf ) included in the olympics ?

As Murray decribed his gold medal win as the finest win of his career I fail to see why you think it doesn't matter to tennis players.
Why would it not matter to the competitor? I fail to see what the nature of the sport has to do with anything....it's like saying... Oh you only play tennis....that doesn't count!
As for the likes of golf....each to their own, I'm sure people thought the same of beach volley ball when it was introduced.

The most important difference is that Joe Public has shown an amazing support to team GB in the football. As for the tennis; seeing the human side of Andy Murray as he leapt up to give his mum a hug, was priceless. Certainly not unimportant to him.

Ask him if he would swap the olympic gold for the wimbledon title
For football teams are limited as to how many older players they can pick so most teams are made up of youngsters rather than household names.
For tennis I thought virtually all the top players took part
