Where's the `Like' button when you need it?

I find it hard to believe that it probably took SOMEONE ELSE 15 minutes to write it...
This post has forced me to analyze and challenge the first verse of the song in a way I've never done before.

Yes, it makes no sense.
Lol, that seriously made me laugh, how in God's name did that tripe get anywhere.
It didn't win Nations Fav did it, PLEASE tll me it didn't.
Yep, absolute dross.
The success or failure of modern pop "music" doesn't seem to depend so much on literary content/merit as on the overall sound of the creation. I know a few young people who tell me that they don't listen to the words; they just let it all wash over them (their description).

No Rocky but it got a far higher placing than it should have ....any placing at all would be too high.

Bohemian Rhapsody no.1
I too posted a thread on this programme over in TV. I cannot believe this rubbish record was rubbing shoulders with the likes of Bridge over Troubled Water.
It's important to remember the word "favourite" here, though, and not get too horrified by individual opinion of quality or otherwise.

Say what you like about The Spice Girls, but nothing succeeds like success and they were hugely successful. Their debut album, from which this single was taken, shifted over 28 million units worldwide, went 10x Platinum in the UK and 7x Platinum in the US, and was No 1 in the UK, US, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Holland, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland.

As for the lyrics not making sense, that's not actually a requirement of pop music, cf I Am The Walrus by The Beatles, Fantastic Day by Haircut 100 et al.

I happen not to care for it very much, but millions of people did!
Quite honestly I think it is just as stupid that Kylie's spinning round thingy was in the top 10!!

My point was that Mel C seemed to be proud of the fact it took only 15 minutes to write ........like everyone would be shocked.
Yep, true the Nationals Favourite No. 1's are not about quality or indeed about music.

O' lord help us.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics, the song won for Best British-Written Single at the 1997 Ivor Novello Awards and for Best Single at the 1997 BRIT Awards.
I am confused Mark. That's about an Elton John song - or am I being thick?
The OP's point concerns how long Wannabe took to right, and I'm illustrating the irrelevance of that by citing the fact that Elton John's "Your Song", an acknowledged pop classic (if you like!) took even less time to write...
But Mark it is the lyrics themselves being so repetitive surely that Mick was finding it hard to believe only took 15 minutes.

The lyrics to 'My Song' at least had some thought put into them.

Mark check your spelling of write!! he, he spelling police ;o)
(Can't stand Elton John)

and I'm illustrating the irrelevance of that

I haven't said you can not write a great song in a very short space of time.
I am puzzled why Mel C thinks it is hard to believe 'Wannabe' was written in 15 mins.

"Coming home pissed from the pub and writing 'That's Entertainment' in 10 minutes," he said.
