So very true. No, you are not alone. It's all a bit like pop music really: they promote it, then all the people whose lives revolve around the TV think they'll be missing out on something big if they don't watch it ... dah-dah-dah. Same as pop music, same as sex symbols, dah-de-dah ...

Cannot stand it: any programme that foists Jade Goody or that bloke Nadia on the public should be taken off the air. Unfortunately, my other half loves it - BB parties, texting friends and so on and so forth, so for 10 weeks it is part of my daily life. Well, this year I've vowed not to watch any of it, and in preparation I've spent a fortune at Waterstones so i can take myself offf to bed and read.

Don't watch it if you don't like it! I hate watching sport - so i don't watch it - even when it takes over most of the channels at certain times!

Disagree, Skellen, - I'm female and can't bear any reality TV. And it's pretty obvious from the talk in my office that Celebrity(!) Love Island is aimed at men who want to ogle sad slappers letting it all hang out.

I have to agree with hugoboss, everyday there are some many questions about reality tv being crap etc etc...if you don't like it, don't watch it!!

Unfortunately, the "If you don't like it, don't watch it" argument doesn't help. It's everywhere and if I were to preclude everything reality TV, it would leave little else for me to watch. Unfortunately my Missus loves it as well and it's on at the only times I'm not working. Perhaps I'll have to pay Waterstones a visit as well.

It's not just reality TV, the terrestrial channels are wall to wall, soaps, DIY, Gardenning, Cookery, property and reality TV. What ever happenned to decent shows on prime time? Even when they get a decent show like the Bill they turn it into a bl*&dy soap. I've got Sky+, it's a godsend, I program a series link for all the things I want to watch then watch them after the event, I can watch what I want and fast forward through the ever increasing ad breaks.

Instead of dreading Big Brother, I've decided to make a game of it, seeing if I can avoid every single second of the damn thing. Every time I see so much as a second, I have to go and do an unpleasant chore for penance (seeing trailers is allowed as they simply can't be avoided if you watch Channel 4 at all, but watching stories about it on TV news is forbidden). I pretty much managed to avoid 21 years of Brookside this way, so I should be OK with a few weeks of BB, although channel hopping (something I do a lot) will become like Russian Roulette, especially if I don't check the TV schedules first.

For the duration, E4 will be a total no-go zone and Channel 4, normally a station I like will see drastically reduced viewing from me until it's over. I'll still watch King of Queens and Will & Grace in the mornings, but will be exercising extreme caution after that.

i watched bb's 2,3 & 4 but managed to not watch any of the last one.

its amazing how thoroughly un-interesting the whole thing is when u dont watch it !
