If you really really want something, do you think a wish or a prayer will most likely bring you what you want?

I wouldn't rely on either - you will get it if you're meant to, whether or not you ask for intercession.
How about working hard and saving up for it?
If I want something I tell myself inner self to be sensitive to the opportunities which could bring it.
mark, that's exactly what OH said, too!
MarkRae, im sure you dont believe that you can "buy" everything one may wish for!
I've wished for a lot of things but I only got them by making damn sure I did something about it.
Going on the success rate of prayers offered at the grotto at Lourdes - no.
My mum used to say "Beware what you wish for, you might just get it."
Many of the material things people wish for are really nugatory. Prayer might not bring what you think you want, but it might help you see, and accept, that you don't always get what you want.
That's a good word, sandy - nugatory
Yes. I've been looking for an opportunity to use it since I saw it in Readers Digest. :-)

i jus go on in there and take it.

To wish is to long for something, or desire something or hope for something.

A prayer is supplication, entreaty, praise or thanks to God.

The poet Alfred Tennyson wrote, “More things are wrought by prayer than the world dreams of”.

Yet many pray for health, happiness, peace, and prosperty – all in vain. In fact, some feel that God does not really listen to prayers. Yet, the Bible calls him the “Hearer of prayer.”—Psalm 65:2

Prayer is as old as humankind.

When God’s servants of ancient times had their prayers answered. Of course, they did not pray as a mere formality to a nameless God. They prayed in faith to “the Most High over all the earth.”
//the Bible calls him the “Hearer of prayer.//

But we know that some parts of the bible are false. Therefore, in the absence of verifiable evidenceto the contrary, we must doubt the whole.
visualise yourself having it and work backwards from there to see the steps needed to achieve it works for things money can't buy as well.... sometimes if its possible... still needs work to make it happen... and a good plan...
I suppose it depends on your choice of invisible friend.
