Pink Union Jacks Last Night of the Proms

Just enjoyed watching the Last Night of the Proms. I may appear ignorant but why were some of the Union Jack flags pink?

Just googled it and see it is Gay Pride. Why change the colour of a well loved and established British symbol?

That doesn't seem right to me, our flag is red, white and blue, how dare they!
I love LNATP's but I felt something was missing this year, I always enjoy the Sailors Hornpipe and all the other sea shanties and they were missing along with a lot of other favourites. Wouldn't miss it though for anything.

Before I start I've nothing against gays just the way that they hi-jack perfectly good symbols and words and make them unusable by straight people. As I said on a previous post on this subject my sister in law now has to use her middle name because she can't introduce herself by saying "Hello I'm Gaye"

I don't like the way things are changed and we are expected to sit back and accept it - and if we complain we are accused of being "anti" - in fact I'm getting sick of it.

Union Jacks are occasionally sighted in other combinations of colours. The design is very distinctive and its use in other colour combinations has been adopted by some football (soccer) team supporters. In particular black and white union jack flags are used by Newcastle United(?) fans. Black and yellow might be used by supporters of Wolves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) of possibly Watford.

She used to try that but there was always some body who ended up taking the "she's Gaye" thing the wrong way, so she decided to stop using her Christian name.

Could she not just say "my name is Gaye" or "pleased to meet you, I'm Gaye Smith" - depending on the circumstances? Sounds a bit daft to practically change her name. "Gaye" is recognised as a name. She sounds a bit oversensitive to me.

See what I mean Trim - why shouldn't she have some "issues" - are we not allowed to disagree with gays - ooops I've said it!

Why should you want to disagree with gays?

My Cousins have the surname Gay and it doesn't seem to have blighted their lives....

I don't see there is a disagreement. Just someone who is a bit oversensitive of her name refuses to use it because she might be confused with being gay. Anyone with half a brain is going to know that when introduced if someone says "Hello I am Gaye", they mean "that's my name, not my sexual orientation". Sounds like she lacks confidence in communication.

And as for pink flags, let people wave whatever flag they wish. I still can't see what the issue is.
