God I am sick of wearing spectacles - a set for reading and taking them off for far distance putting them back on and off.

Anybody go or advise for that laser treatment on the eyes if mine are suitable. I am 60 - my sister says it is too dangerous particularly I am so deaf and if I lost my sight I would be going about like Helen Keller using the thumbs. Thanks for any advice and also is it painful.

My wee niece described hers (she got it done about 3 years ago) as mini drills on your eyes without being knocked out.

it's painless as you have anaesthetic drops in your eyes.

why don't you have a consultation? no one on here can say if your eyes are suitable.
have you thought about varifocals - far cheaper than laser treatment!
my friend had it done, she said it was a bit sore afterwards and came back to work at the end of the same week

thanks bedknobs but a colleague I worked with used varifocals and she thought them terrible she went back to the two spectacles again. Could not get used to them
I'd go for a consultation Connemmara.....I tried varifocals and they were dreadful, took mine back after a couple of weeks.
Have you not tried bi-focals they are brilliant (reading and distance all in one)
I use two pairs, but i have no issue with them at all.

Never fancied varifocals, or surgery - specs are a part of my identity now.
Question Author
marg I think they bi-focals the colleague wore - will find out tomorrow night at work what they were.
Connemmara, in the meantime.. try Specsavers. you seem to have missed some posts on your thread.
I thought laser treatment was for short sighted people?

Perhaps I am wrong?

I have the same problem. Wear glasses for reading and close work and can't see past the computer screen when I take them off!!
I mean when I have them on!! I am long sighted!!
blimey, do we have to answer every single post on our threads now sara?
Question Author
sara 3 what do you mean - what have I missed. Yes I do go to Specsavers for my annual eye test. but what have I missed. Thanks
ive worn variofaocals for many years and dont have any problems at all, like evreything it will take a short time to get used to them. a friend of mine had laser and still has to wear glasses at times a waste of nearly 3 grand
no bednobs, but I've had my eyes lasered and thought..

ahh, forget it.
Yes I think you're still going to need reading glasses if you have it done.

I use contacts and glasses for reading - I take it you've not had any luck using contact lenses?
I know five or six people who have had their eyes lasered and none of them said they experienced any pain, only discomfort. They all say it's the best thing they've done, though, and all wish they'd done it sooner. All clinics offer a free consultation and will tell you if you're suitable, too.
please don't be cross with me :)
I was just thinking if we had to answer every answer, i'd have spent all day on my "bra" thread yesterday!
A colleague here at work was interested and was told she was too old as apparently the older you are your eyes are constantly changing.
Meaning I think the laser effect would wear off.
bednobs, it's fine.. just being a grump today, sorry :o/
Is it because you've lost your bottom ?
