As you were "enthralled " with my WW" heroics in my Lancaster Bomber told to that young besotted Red Arrows female pilot, i will enthrall you,as i did her, with another one ;-)

20,ft above the South Downs, clear skies, when over the IC came the message "Angel 15, Bandits at bearing 201" and with out a thought for my own safety i dived into half a dozen M.E 109's blazing away and seeing one by one burst into flames and plunge into the ground with a huge explosion. Yes, i had been hit in the leg, which was bleeding badly, but i took Ibuprofen and chased after the last 109. I came up behind hims and gave him a burst which sent him towards the ground and as i passed him, I could see in the cockpit that he was bleeding badly from a head wound, but ........he waved............and do you know I think that he smiled..............war is a funny thing.

When i landed, i was badly hurt, but immediately sought the advice of the AB where I was told to contact NHS Direct, or go to the nearest walk-in centre or go to A&E.
No, I thought, another 600mgms of Ibuprofen did the trick

So you were hit in the leg, it was bleeding badly, and someone suggested a walk in centre.

I'm not sure all that Ibuprofen was necessary sqad, perhaps a dab on the wound with some aromatherapy oils would have helped, Ylang Ylang, or Patchouli perhaps ;-)
Question Author
Doc....LOL....20,000 ft.....remember i was badly injured...:-)
I hope you weren't still in your Lancaster
I am bowled over sqad, almost welling up here with pride and admiration.

Have you ever thought of writing fiction? Maybe give Jeffrey Archer a run for his money? ;-)
Question Author
Hoppy...no after the episode on the way back from Duisburg, I was transferred to Fighter Command.............!!
Question Author
salla...thanks....no.....modesty precludes me form writing my memoirs as I feel that having Guy Gibson and Douglas Bader as national wartime icons is sufficient.

I will stick to being just a loved and admired AB icon.
ok ;-)
Excuse me, you were not old enough to be in world war two, so as the saying used to be in those days, pull the other leg, it's got bells on it. Besides which Ibuprofen wasn't invented then, or if it was it was not in general use. Now tell us a proper story, because I am sure you have a wealth of them just as exciting.
Question Author
Starby...LOL....no fooling you eh?
I am still one of your greatest admirers sqad, so don't get sarcastic with me or I shall denounce you for not telling us some real stories.
lol star - you tell him!
I am sure he could entertain us for hours with his escapades salla without fabricating them.
Question Author
Starby....if I told stories on AB (true stories) the old anti-sqad brigade would be out with comments like.." bragging" showing off" "don't believe you".......so I don't bother.

Which reminds me..........don't you think that AB has gone "downhill" in the last one year or so.......in the mornings there would be chatty, humorous threads, but now, just odd threads of inconsequential nonsense?
I am darn sure of that starbuck!
Sqad - The saying <he loved them so much he bought the Company> comes to mind every time you mention Ibuprofen 600mgms..............hahaha

Reading this has really made me laugh - and I need it this morning, been to see the Doc and my chloresterol is high and am suffering from depression.........(:o(
