Has anyone seen the ITV news, there was a preview of a story being shown at 10pm, about someone stopping a lorry load of dogs being taken for slaughter to be used as meat, think it was China?

I don`t know about China but dogs are for sale (alive) in food markets in Korea. I wouldn`t be able to watch that programme.
Can't possibly be news to you can it jules? Like the above poster, i couldn't and won't watch it, but I know it's not a new news story, animals we consider pets are eaten all over the world.
Vietnam, Macau, Southern China and I belive Laos and Cambodia too. They are bred for food not pets.

Its ok as a meat but I can leave it
It`s not news that animals that we consider pets are eaten. Sorry to be graphic but dogs are alive in markets in Korea with their legs disjointed and tied across their backs. They have used tin cans over their jaws. I don`t even want to think about it and I like the people in the Far East but I`m afraid I hate their attitute towards animals.

I know they are sold on markets in China, I didnt know it was in such large numbers, apparently there were 500 plus dogs crammed into a lorry.
"If it moves, the Chinese eat it, if it stays still they build on it"

"What's the only thing with four legs that the Chinese do not eat?"
Answer - "The table."

Actually, I have never seen horse on the menu and they dont like cheese generally. There are big regional differences. Lamb in the North (esp in Halal restaurants) but hardly seen in the South, other than some Szechuan restaurants) and vica versa as to birds (other than chickens and ducks). Mao had a thing against birds and tried to rid the country of them back in the early 60s......so I guess from a food perspective, they died a death back then in the North, so to speak.
237J then you should see their attitudes to humans then - its the same! For example in Thailand there is many an accident between trucks and the innumerous motorbikes. The Thai truck drivers frequently reverse back over the victim - dead people do not talk!
That practice of hobbling the dogs is also used in the Philippines SJ. Like DT, whilst I have a problem with animals we consider pets in the west being eaten, that problem (for me) wouldn't be as distressing if the breeding and killing of them were in anyway humane- sadly, its not.
I know DT I go to Bangkok a couple of times a year but the issue here isn`t about humans, it`s about animals. Two wrongs don`t make a right.
Or execution of folk in China

On the knees, pistol to the back of the head, pull the trigger. Bang. And the family pays for the bullet.

I had an opportunity to have someone executed for counterfeiting.....
You`re digressing DT.
same thing with cats in the M-East.....frequently masquerades as chicken. Or of you have been in a goat restaurant, thats a wee bit disconcerting when you hear the dinner being executed while you are eating lunch.
so what
Goat`s no big deal. They eat it in the Caribbean.
the point was their attitude to animals; my point is that it is the same in many ways to humans, i.e. ruthless. A vailid point.
didnt say that goat wasn't tasty - it is - good grief, the point is that it is executed there and then in front of you while you are eating. I can just see Gordon Ramsey doing that in his restaurant, or the local fish and chippie half cooking a fish for you so the tail is dead and the upper body is thrashing (yes that is a delicacy in Shanghai)
Well, you could say the attitute to humans in some of the less salubrious parts of South London leave a lot to be desired but I don`t really see what that has to do with the original OP`s comments. Sorry to deviate jules77
Any way I am going to go and eat my dog, sorry, my dinner.
By the way what is the difference between seeing goat executed in front of you and seeing lobster picked out from a tank and executed in front of you which I experienced a little while ago? (OK I chose the cop out option and let the server do the dirty deed) :-)
Oh dear DT. I sincerely hope you haven`t `run for the hills`!
