Hey,
I'm a massive Harry Potter fan, my friend however is not. I've slowly talked her round to give the boy wizard a chance. She won't read the books but will try the films.
However, he patience is limited and I really want her to appreciate the whole entire complex story that is HP!
So I ask all you muggles, does anyone have any links or know of any Harry Potter synopsis's?! I want to give her a page or few outlining the entire story really, so she isnt flung into a entirely different world.
Any help would be much appreciated! Obviously the whole thing with him and Voldemort must be the main thing, but all the other characters too. Thanks in advance x

My sympathies to your friend.

I would suggest you leave her alone. You currently sound like a very good friend of mine and while I'm happy to watch the films I have no interest in reading the books.

Like you, my friend does the usual 'the book is so much better and they left loads out' and I'm sure she's right. Like your friend however, I'm also sure I can live without not knowing more.

The films are by far enough to keep me informed of the situations in the lives of the pot headed one and friends.

Thanks for that lol but she has actually asked to know more as she hates going into a film not knowing anything about the series. I just didnt know how to put it down in words, but hey thanks anyways :)
Well then in that case, she can't have her cake and eat it! Cheeky mare... ;0)

Just make her do a marathon of all the films and read the synopsis on the back of each DVD. That should honestly be enough.

ha, thanks China :P
Quite honestly, and I mean honestly is anybody going to be able to appreciate Harry Potter if they don't read the books?
This story was meant to be read (JK Rowling didn't set this for screen) I know people who have seen the films but not read the books and they don't have this love and appreciation for the humour, this whole adventure which is unique.
Please don't get your friend into this film thing because as you know, if you've seen the films they don't 'match' the books at all. I've heard people talk about the films and realise they haven't at all chalked onto the real story.
Cheerio from a HP fan
Only the evil twin wouldnt like Harry Potter
If you type 'Harry Potter' and synopsis into a search engine, you'll get the result you need.

However, I side with China Doll here. There are those who think Rowling's the best writer since Dickens and those who know better, and it's not fair to coerce anyone into reading anything. It's the quickest way to turn someone off a particular author and off reading in general.

I'd love it if you all went out and read Dickens' works which, as you describe HP, need to be considered in their wider context in order to be able to enjoy any one title. But it's not likely to happen. I came to Dickens by choice, years after a teacher said I didn't have to, and that's how you enjoy an author best.
Have you tried looking at each book on wikipedia. I know they give the full idea of what happened in the last book, they may do it for all of them
What's the point of trying to force someone into being into the books? Sorry, but if people like the books they like them. I hate it when poeple go on about a book that they've lent me that is OK but not that marvellous.... Just accept the fact that some people just aren't as into the books as we are OK?
I agree with the others here.

We all have our favorite book or film or pop group or TV program etc. that we would love our family or friends to also love as much as we do.

But as the saying goes "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink".

If your friend is not willing to read the books, or even take time to watch the films, then forget about trying to convince her and just enjoy them yourself.

Also, reading a synopsis is bad, surely it is better to let the books (or films) unfold gradually without knowing ANYTHING that is coming up.

So I say again, STOP trying to convince her, and just be glad that you have discovered them.
try this site, it gives info and synopsis of a sort
