we were given a vacuum packed salami as part of an unusual food hamper at christmas. it's been sitting in the fridge since then looking at me. i've just taken it out of it's plastic packing and had a slice, and very tasty it is. it's quite a big-ish piece, maybe 8 inches long and about as fat as a large cucumber so what can i use it up in? only thing i can think of is pizza topping or maybe sandwiches. we're both being very careful about what we eat at the moment in an attempt to lose a bit of weight so anything that doesn't have loads of calories in it would be good.

Hi,
You can also eat this on it's own or with crackers. You could use it on an antipasto, as a cold starter or main course.
Trouble is most of them are loaded with salt and calories. I'd take it off your hands.

I wouldn't recommend cooking salami as by the cooking process makes it more salty.

I'd have it in a sandwich with slices of cucumber to counter the strong taste. I love salami.

We had a very nice pasta dish last night, with chicken shredded into pasta, with the salami cut into rings and thrown in with the sauce. Adds a nice zing to an otherwise fairly bland meal.

thank you everyone for your suggestions - now why didn't i think of putting it into a pasta dish???
Slice it and add to a Margarita pizza for a pepperoni without the pepperyness, or cut it into small cubes and add it to baked beans.
