Well, given that the UK's blasphemy law was only repealed in 2008, I can't see why you are getting exercised about the law elsewhere. Or do you believe that we should impose our views about such matters on other countries ?

don't be a pratt, I don't think anyone has been sentenced to death in UK for blasphemy for centuries. So you believe that death is an apt punishement for blasphemy do you? right oh!
This is an argument that I've heard over and over again. It takes slightly different forms but it essentially boils down to this, “It was only 'x' years ago that 'y' was illegal in the UK so we shouldn't be dishing out moral judgements to others because we were just as bad as them 'x' number of years ago.”

This argument is a logical fallacy; it attempts to dismiss criticism of others' behaviour because of what has happened in the past. Rather like dismissing the advice of a former drug addict advising others not to take drugs. If the statement above is incorrect then it would be wrong to criticise... slavery; sexual discrimination; racial discrimination; rape; child abuse, etc. All of which were routinely practised at various points in the UK's past but which are all now illegal. Some (if not all) of these practices do still exist and even flourish in certain countries of the world.

If the above statement were true then it would be perfectly valid to argue that..., “The UK only decriminalised homosexual sex between consenting adults 44 years ago so it is wrong for us to criticise countries where homosexuality is a crime punishable by death”.
When will the Catholic church be dragged out of the 16thC?
You could go on asking such questions till the cows come home, they still won't achieve anything!
I really cant see the point in arguing over this news.
The Pakistanis have no respect for life as we know it in the UK and don't deserve anybody trying to make their lives and Country a better place, it will never change as history has proved!

R1Geezer is asking a question on a subject he feels strongly about. He wants your opinion to that question not an english lesson LT7.

When those of the faith choose to pressure for change as in any communal faith.
He writes it as he sees it, and if you reply to a post answer the question
Missing an "R" out of the word PROGRESSIVE could have been a simple typing error. It shouldn't be used as an excuse to question his ability to put forward a question1

EOE!!
Pedants and stuck-up Stickybeaks abound.!But back to the argument and if you continue to watch Sky News you deserve your high blood pressure Whatbusiness is it of yours Its not your country!!
Sorry to be pedantic (but this is quite relevant), he didn't even pardon the woman - he simply appealed for her pardon.
I don't often agree with R1G - and do not do so now - but what an absurd notion from LucyThomas7 that one's "lack of understanding of English destroys any credibility of (his/her) argument."
If that were true, we should surely treat every dyslexic as some sort of fool whose ideas we should simply ignore. And let us not forget that many of humanity's greatest thinkers were illiterate.
QM, LucyThomas hasn't grasped the notion that people who nitpick others grammar and spelling mistakes only ever succeed in making themselves look stupid.
The point I was trying to make is that Pakistan is NOT the UK, and they have their laws (which include laws dealing with murder).

The implication in your question is that the country is uncivilised because some people have extreme views (that pardoning someone convicted of blasphemy is wrong - the usual sentence is death) and is in a position to do something about his beliefs.

So do the incidents in Iraq from a few years ago make the US or UK uncivilised ? Or is it just the individuals involved who are uncivilised ?
dont you just love the grammar stazi?

LucyThomas7 .... oh dear - does that mean that there are at least 6 others?

perhaps i will get fined for using lower case and no apostrophes

this medium is akin to bashing out a quick e-mail (a modern memo) and the conventions of grammar are not sposed (oops) to be adhered to precisely

in my humble opinion

methinks that if she agreed with the offending view there would have been no grizzling

if one is going to be pedantic at least be consistent, there is plenty of offensive grammar on ab for these types to moan about if so important
