Hi there I receive a certain amount of housing benefit for my private rental. Does anyone know if I decided to move house and the rent was higher would I receive proportionate housing benefit?

It depends on how high the new rent is. Each council will have an upper limit on what they will pay. You could ring the council and ask?
There is an upper limit in each area, based on the size of accommodation you are considered to be entitled to. The system is called "local housing allowance" & the limits can change each month. Go here to find out for your locality:

but do talk to your council as well before deciding anything, to make sure they agree with your view on the size of accommodation you need.

Thanks for both replies; I did intend to call when I got home, and I did and found out that a move will be fine and it won't affect my housing bens, thanks again.
