i had a arthrocentesis done on my knee with no anasetic no numbing no freezing is this the correct procedure?

when they did it they gave me no warning just came in said that i needed it doing i asked if i could be numbed knocked out or a anesetic of some sort they said no and that i would just feel a scratch....
