My boyfriend has been diagnosed with Syringomelia, its a very rare condition that means he has a cyst in his spinal cord and will need an operation in the cord

Before we found out about this we were looking into getting a mortgage and building a house.

Would his diagnosis affect a mortgage/insurance etc?

I don't think it's that rare, I imagine he'll be laid up for about 6 weeks and then he'll be fine.

You don't need insurance to have a mortgage and even people with long term health problems can get a mortgage - I was born with a heart condition, getting a mortgage was fine but I found that life and health insurance were too expesive and wouldn't cover my existing medical conditions.
