The greatest show on Earth, the Winter Olympics, is coming to town.

None of our towns, obviously ... but you know what I mean.

Here's one from the past ...

Yes, Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards.

I once stood at the top of a ski jump slide. I just thought ... "If I slip, I'm going to die."

Eddie's problem was not that he was no good. If Eddie had been square chinned and gorgeous, he would have been a national hero. His problem was that he looked like one of the Chuckle Brothers. Eddie was probably the bravest British sportsman ever.

Morning JJ - and I absolutely agree with you about poor ol' Eddie... He never got the adoration he deserved. Bless him.

I think anyone who knocks him should go and stand at the top of one of those things, salla.

Honestly, just peering over the edge made me feel queasy.

The motorbike is coming out in 20 days JJ, taking my car off the road so I'm stuck with only a citroën shed and my cute bike :)

Hope the weather picks up lol, what you been up to lately?
Question Author
I hope the weather improves before then, Diz !

I've just been keeping an eye on the weather, and trying to work out when I can skive off for a bit more skiing. Got the annual girls' trip in Feb, and a week at easter, but hoping I might get a few more weekends skiing with the BF too.
Skiing eeps I'd die if I tried that, I'm terrible on my feet let alone a set of skis! Oh damn I forgot to go to the sodding doctors, my memory is like a fish at the moment, I keep forgetting everything straight away. Will you go over to Vancouver next month JJ ? Will watch it on TV as I cannot afford to go myself but I have been to Vancouver many Years ago......nice City !
Question Author
No, I'm not going to Vancouver ... unfortunately.

I'll prob spend some of the Olympic time in Switzerland with my BF, who is half Swiss, half Italian, so I will probably have to support those teams (in any events where Team GB are not competing).

Until you've seen a live ski race, you get no idea of how fast, how steep, how dangerous it is.

Or when you finish a day's skiing, and you set off down the mountain, thinking ... "it's about 20 mins down to the village" ...

... and then those guys do it in 1 min 40 secs.

!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Grandmother was from Basle but have never been to Switzerland myself.
Yes, the Sport is too dangerous for me but is a great Spectator Sport all the same. Those Slalom Skiers have nerves of steel !
Question Author
Oh, Switzerland is just the most beautiful country, Redman.

I've been there skiing quite a lot, but now I go there because "he" lives there.

If you get on the train at Geneva, and go along the north side of the Lake, you spend the whole journey with your jaw hanging open ... it is SO spectaculer.

You really should go.
I got concussion skiing, once................and that was just from carrying my skis ! :o(
Question Author
Ouch !!
I was carrying my equipment off towards the ski-lift area with my boots in my right hand over my skis balanced on my right shoulder and dropped a boot on my foot. This caused me to stumble and I managed to thread the bottom end of the skis through a railing. They shot up my shoulder and cracked me on the base of my skull causing me to fall and twist my knee, too.

I'd had 30 minutes skiing previous to this and had to sit out the remainder of my weekend with concussion, a ricked knee and a throbbing foot.

I really wasn't a happy bunny ...........:o(
