Rightly so, the police and courts treat domestic violence seriously and one would hope a custodial sentence would be passed. You have not provided sufficient information regarding the incident for a proper assessment, however, the likely outcome for common assault with an early plea and no pre-cons would be a Community Punishment Order / fine.
