White Lines in road by dropped kerbs, What is the actual rule ref. parking ? not just the practice.

They have no standing in law at all, they are purely advisory and just put down to deter people from parking there.

Thanks Chuck I thought that was it but needed confirmation. By the way ,sorry for putting the question and not just the title in title box, I got carried away and had posted before I realised
But don't forget the white line is an additional warning. It is an offence to block a dropped kerb and you could be fined for doing so.
I thought it was an offence to block someone in NOT to block them out?
