Three police officers have been arrested over allegations of making inflated expenses claims while investigating the July 7 bombings, Scotland Yard has said.

The Metropolitan Police officers were arrested in connection with a number of offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud, theft and false accounting.

It is believed the allegations relate to misuse of corporate credit cards while they were based in Leeds investigating the background of the suicide bombers.

Three members of the public, believed to be relatives of the officers, were also arrested.

I wonder if they will be allowed to pay back the money and then no further action will be taken?

Don't think so somehow gromit. I used to vet company expenses for about 150 people and if there were anomalies these were sorted out before payment was made. There were some genuine errors in which case no further action was taken. In the 5 years doing this work i found only 1 case of actual intent to defraud; the person involved was sacked and successfully prosecuted.
I suppose you are referring to the MP's paying it back. the big difference is that they were not defrauding they were taking an advantage of a lax system. Morrally it was wrong and they are hoping that by paying back come voting time they will be forgiven it is not to avoid prosecution.
