...who is lying by a lake on a shallow pebble beach wearing nothing but a pair of 'Y's??
Basically i think this sort of behaviour is unacceptable but someone in the office said this morning that as long as he is 'covered' he is fine. does that mean i could walk around the streets of glasgow in my pants and bra without any (legal) repercussions?

It would depend I think on Scottish law and also your local bylaws. Theoretically it might be possible to make an appearance in you pants and bra with no repercussions.
I believe you could walk down the road naked if you wanted to. Unless it was against a local by-law or unless you were causing a disturbance or unless anyone complained that they found it offensive.
You can walk along any public street in your underwear if you choose. You may be refused entry to shops, offices or any other building, but you will not be committing an offence.
Falling below your own standards of acceptability does not make it a criminal offence.

i dont think you can wander around naked- look at the 'naked rambler', he's been up in court for indecent exposure numerous times and think of all the nutcases exposing themselves in parks etc - i dont think so.
Question Author
but what about underwear?!?
I dont think the two scenarios you mention are comparable really.

Firstly the guy by the lake, is that any different to him being by the lake in swimming trunks like the little Speedo ones? Or do you think it is wrong for people to wear what is basically underwear, in all but name on beaches/by lakes etc?

The second one well personally I couldnt care less if you walked down the high street in your underwear, but I can understand why some people would disapprove, time and a place and all that. Legally to be honest Im not sure guess there is no specific law against it, but if there were complaints I think the police would stop you and ask you what you were doing.

Just because i included my personal opinion doesnt mean i think it should be law - if that were the case i'd ban people who wear slippers and pjs to th supermarket - but that's my opinion and i'm entitled to it.
i just wanted to know about the underwear - the legalities? - i dont know if its any different to being by the lake wearing mini speedos, that's why i asked the question in the first place, i didnt ask it to get into a big debate about personal opinions on taste/attire.
No it's no different to being by the lake in swimming trunks. There, answered.
Every summer you can go to any British beach and find older women sitting around in their bras,it is a common sight. I wouldn't be offended by that or seeing a man in his Y Fronts.
There was a load of stuff on this last year as I recall. One of the TV companies got a bus of women touring London naked on a bus. Dawn Porter fronted it I think

I think the law only provides coverage against expose of the genitals.

I think the advice they got was that in the case of women it wouldn't apply "unless they were planning to turn cartwheels"

But there might be all sorts of local byelaws depending on where you were and in some circumstances I guess the catch all "likely to cause a breech of the peace" might apply.
I wouldn't recommend taking the law into your own hands.....he could get violent!

Wots wrong with Y or nakedness on a beach. Surely you know the anatomy of human males & females, why take offence? He must have been an Adonis for you to leer!

What? does anyone on this site have any common sense????????????
What has common sense got to do with it? You asked a question about the law which has been answered.
jordielaz.....take a photo & post for us.....could do with a thrill ;)

Better still, tell us where the hunk can be seen & we'll arrange a coach party to join him. We'll all strip off - give you time to invest in binocs.
I dont think anyone said you were not entitled to your opinion, just disagreed with it! ;-)

If you dont want to get into a debate then just ask about the legality of the issue at hand and do not add your personal opinion to the question at all. By doing so you are inviting people to get into a debate.

But your opinions are all so PC and right-on.
And yours is very prudish.
It isn't like this man had his todger out in full view for god's sake! Get a grip!!!
Oooooooh - this thread gets more delish the longer it gets (no pun intended). We Free bus pass users have 4gotten the delights of raw young men.....more, more & More - perlees!
But yours are all so antiquated and judgemental.

See I can make an assumption based on one conversation over tinernet as well.
