ok, i had a provident agent call to my house this morning saying i owe 368 , this is news to me as ive never had a loan with them. she told me that provident has been trying to trace me as there has been no payments made since august of last year and that the loan was taken out at my previous address. Ive not lived there for nearly 2 years now so it obviously wasnt me who took it out. Shes now told me that it will be investigated and i may be liable to pay it. Im sick with worry and so angry that someone has done this and im not sure what to do. any advice?

That is rubbish! They would have to prove it was you who took out the loan before they could even try to make you pay.
If this happened to me I would be very cautious for a number of reasons before I gave a stranger any details just because they landed on my doorstep:

1. Did she have any identification?
2. How did she say they managed to locate you?
3. Did you actually let her into your home? She would have had no right of entry had you refused to let her in.
4. Did you disclose your personal details to her? She would have had no right to demand them.
5. Make a record of everything from now on of any further dealings with "Provident".
6. Contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau asap and arrange an appointment to go to see them.

Good luck.

thanks guys, ive been getting myself in a right state over it, theres no way im going to pay someone elses debts, not when i have enough of my own. Im going to get a copy of my credit report to see if anything else has been taken out in my name now just to be on safe side.
Good for you. But if you want to make some money you can always offer a service to them by saying.

I can tell you who you are looking for.

Ask for a small remuneration for your answer take the money and say, 'It wasn't me!'

Eh! I remember a singer said that many times on TV and Radio and made Millions of Dollars.
