My business went bust in 1996 owing HSBC bank money, they agreed that the amount outstanding could be paid by me at 100.00 p.month. I have done this for 18months and never missed a payment.

The debt has now been sold to another party who want 190.00 a month and say they will put a charge against my house. Can they do this????

a verbal arrangement
not sure but unless it goes to the county court they can't put a charge on your house, but if the bank has sold it and they are asking for 190 they can try thru the courts if they donl;t get the money, have you spoken to the bank? bet they say they have sold the debt and can't deal with you, but i think the new firm should have to accept a reasonable offer, have they added charges and costs on too?
