has anyone heard of any charites or other that give help to working people that live alone. and are struggling.

Sometimes you can apply for a crisis loan if you are experiencing troubles and need to fund an expense which could leave you in hardship

The only other people who may be able to help are your local Salvation Army

if the person is working, their union may have a hardship fund
If you're below the poverty line the DHSS will supplement your income.
If you work more than 30 hours per week, and your income is low, you may be entitled to 'working tax credit' - you should check on taxcredits.gov.uk x
