Given that BT, Talk Talk and Virgin media are going to implement the Phorm tracking / profiling spyware, is there a way (apart from signing to another ISP) to prevent Phorm tracking and profiling me? I don't trust the opt out cookie rubbish.
I've written several letters to VM challenging the legality of Phorm citing section 2 and section 8 of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Article 8 of the Human Rights Act but it's evident their policy regarding data subject enquiries is one of no response. I'm under no illusion therefore complaining to the Information Commissioner will prove beneficial either. Is it true that Apple's Safari browser for Windows is non compliant with Phorm's technology? and if so, (despite known security flaws with that browser version) is this a viable short term solution?

You could try this, recommended to block Phorm tracking:

Running Tor could work but it can really slow your connection. (Well, it does for me anyway).

Using the Dephormation plug-in, with Firefox, could help:

It's not perfect but, if all Firefox users adopt it, it could really screw up the tracking system.

Thank you Ethel & Chris.

Hi Jugglering,

I sincerely appreciate any response especially those from exceedingly good repliers on AB.

In my opinion my ratings were fair.

I hadn't heard of torproject, but given it's structure my initial thoughts were confirmed with the slow connection Chris observed. I haven't tried it so I don't know and this is not meant to detract from Ethel in any way.

I had heard of Dephormation but again as Chris points out it's not 100%. Overall though, again just in my opinion, those two points constitute a better response and is reflected in the one and two star ratings repectively.

No comments on the Safari browser, so close but no cigar.

Hi, have you read this article on Wiki?. It is quite interesting and as a VM customer I certainly would not be giving my permission for them to use Phorm on my account!.
