I'm sure it must be the same in the UK, but in Ireland tesco have a 'No Quibble' guarantee posted all around the store. If you have an item scanned and it's the wrong price they give it to you gratis, no argument. It's not that I've a photographic memory or anything, but it's happened on two occassions in the past year that this has happened with goods I'm buying - they're usually on special or something and that's the reason i pick them up, hence being sure of the price.

Why is it then, that despite the guarantee being posted on an 8ft sign at the checkouts that the girls seem to act like it's news to them, and have to call a supervisor/manager to get the ok? They usually go through the motions of trying to rescan at the lower price and it's up to the customer to point to the big sign behnd them!

Yeah, I wanna know too. I have been overcharged many times by Tesco. As I drive to my local Tesco, I normally have to wait a week after I have perused my receipt, but there is always something overcharged or charged twice.
In England, you just have to mention Trading Standardsto get them running around. If a scanning results in an overcharge, they can get a very heavy fine as it is their responsibility to get it right. Most large store nave someone emloyed just to get this right.
i had to get in contact with trading standards once about tesco not adhering to an offer, the poster said uncle bens sauces were but on get one free, i took mine to the checkout and was charged for the two, when i told them of the offer they said it was the ones pictured on the poster although it didnt say that, so i contacted t.s who told me that they would investigate which they did and a couple of weeks later told me that although i was right and tesco had admitted they were wrong their was no point in me taking it further because as tesco is such a huge concern they would win!!!!
If it was me I'd stop shopping at tesco, never liked the place much anyway, not as good as morisons or asda.
