If a company makes a person redundant - and then shortly after another person who did the same job in the same department resigns - is there any obligation for the company to re-employ the person that was originally made redundant.

FYI - What makes YOU think that I have been made redundant - this question came about because a similar situation may occur in my wifes company, and we wondered what the rights of the person who was made redundant were. If I was made redundant I would have said so - so please read the question and dont jump to conclusions.
ALSO - I need to know a website where I could find information on re-employment
Ha Ha, I don't think The Prophet meant it like that. It was meant to explain the connection between YOU and YOUR in the same way we could say when ONE was made redundant, ONE'S position ceases to exist.

Isn't it funny how people completely misread? Suppose that's where the term death by email comes from.
Tubeway, if that it the attitude you show when someone is kind enough to offer YOU advice then don't expect much help here. Or am I just jumping to the conclusion that you're always incredibly rude to someone trying to assist you.

Yes - you are jumping to conclusions - big time. I have answered over 800 questions on answerbank, as opposed to 35 asked. While I appreciate the question being answered, there was no inferrance or implication thtat I was the one being made redundant. My comments were meant (and taken I hope) as constructive. I personally would have structured the answer using "When a person is made redundant, it is their position that ceases to exist...." By the way wondrous read your post - thta strikes me as being increadibly rude, and not in the least constructive - so maybe you could try not to jump to such conclusions in future.
