My friend has had a water leak behind her sink unit this happened before Xmas. The unit has rotted to the extent that it can no longer support the sink unit Her insurance company will replace this unit but want her to contribute �1300 pounds towards the rest of the kitchen units which is a very small kithcen I think they have got a nerve were does she stand legally

I think you will find that they are only obliged to replace the damaged unit and not the whole kitchen. Obviously this will then not match so you end up paying to replace the rest. Read the small print ihn the policy documents.
It may be that it varies between insurance companies. I had a bathroom leak which damaged the kitchen ceiling. This was repaired and re-decorated. Then the kitchen walls were redecorated because it was felt that one could not be done without the other. The walls had not been damaged. This was done by Norwich Union and there was no mention of a contribution. Even if they have a valid claim, �1300 seems a lot for a small kitchen.

The small print is always their cop out. As she says she could do the whole kitchen for that but I think they want to send in their own fitters who will charge the earth.
