I'm allowed to put food cans in my 'paper' bin, but not shredded paper. Why?

It's not a 'paper' bin. It's a bin for those recyclable materials which the machinery at the recycling centre is equipped to handle.

Most recycling centres have machinery which can sort and handle aluminium and steel cans. They also have machinery which can handle sheet paper and card. However, shredded paper jams the machines and should not be placed in the 'recycling' bin.

We have to put our shredded paper in the recycle bin for garden waste, for some unknown reason.
