does anyone know what those white panels with what looks like a red sliding button are for, as you look below the opposite platform at a train station, spaced about 5-10 meters apart?

I think they might be for getting access to the tracks if someone falls onto them? Not too sure though.

they look like the sliding switch on a graphic equalizer.
Might be a device for checking if there has been any subsidence or track movement.
