Transferring title deeds

My father has recently suffered a stroke and has now decided that he wants to transfer the title deeds of his house to me. The house is all paid off and he is a widower, so I am next of kin. Can this be done legally without attracting any additional tax liability or do I have to buy the house for a nominal price?
