The US general secretary has said that being a victim of domestic abuse or escaping gang violence is not a valid reason for asylum in the US.

I would agree with that. They do not have to move country to get away from that. Just move city or the other side of the country you live in.

Of course there will be plenty of charities ready to challenge the ruling.

Sorry Attorney General, not General Secretary.
I agree too. Part of the problem can be that the abusive or gang member partner can follow them, legally or illegally, so why would the US want to risk that they have enough home grown.
I agree those are not valid reasons to see asylum. They could find safe passage in neighbouring countries.
