Have you got actual proof of the loan and that they promised to pay it back rather than it being a gift?
That's exactly what I would say. Do you have anything in writing & signed by you & the person who borrowed money from you? If not, basically you might have to say goodbye to your money. This happened some years ago to someone I knew who lent a sizeable sum to a person who she considered a very good friend. It was never repaid & she eventually denied even receiving money from this person. Awful time for her. Hope you can resolve it
As said unless you have actual PROOF that you loaned them the money and that repayment was required you don't have any hope of getting it back unless they agree to repay you.
You can't charge interest unless it was agreed at the start, you should have agreed a repayment schedule as well.
Have you asked them for the repayments?
no you cant charge interest ( lawfully ) unless it was agreed at the start.
yes you can sell the debt on - but I am not sure if they will buy / bite if you just say " I lent my wife's friend Madge [you know Madge at no 23] a grand and she hasnt paid and denies the loan oh and there is nothing written"

if they are denying the debt they it sounds as tho you are screwed.

have you tried going around and asking for it ?
it is NOT harassment to go around and ask for the repayment of a debt.

[ I mean the ex-tenant who said to me- "well I DID go on holiday with your rent money and I have nothing to pay - what exactly do you want me to do ?" (me: pay the rent!) - had now gone bankrupt in the sum of £40 000] She obviously found other suckers to ante up the other £39,800)
