I advertised two sofas on behalf of my in laws and specified that they had to be collected by Tuesday as new ones were being delivered. I did a buy it now price and said collection only. Yesterday a guy paid in full but I looked and he lives miles and miles away. He has made no contact about collection or anything since he paid even though I've messaged him several times and even given him my phone number. So what do we do if it comes to Tuesday and he still hasn't made contact? I assume I'm obliged to refund the money even thought he's stopped anybody else paying and collecting them!!
I think you may have a problem (another problem that is!) if you sold them to someone else since he's already paid for them. It's a difficult one as part of the contract was pick up only on Tuesday but he hasn't broken that bit yet. Don't forget that it's a long bank holiday weekend. He may well be out celebrating wildly and there still is today and tomorrow for him to contact you. Have you tried searching for a telephone number? It's frustrating I know but to sell to someone else now may lead to all sorts of problems
Ah- hadn't realised you meant this coming next Tuesday (I have completely lost track of the days of the week). I expect he is just trying to hire/borrow a van
As a Buyer or Seller or both Smow? I'm thinking if he has a high positive score as a Buyer then there is still hope he will come good although he's cutting it a bit fine. If he paid the Buy it Now price there is no question that he didn't know he'd secured the sofas. If he reneges on the deal by not picking them up I don't think you should have to return the money. The fault is not yours, it's his.
You could get in touch with eBay and ask for their advice. You never know, they might just be able to give you some (my personal experience with them has been a bit hit and miss).
I think he might have paid for the sofas and then gone out to celebrate the New Year. He might be surfacing by now, so how about messaging him again now checkin that he has received all the info he needs in order to collect the sofas by Tuesday and to wish him a Happy New Year.
Snowb ask him if he wants to cancel the transaction. If he does you can cancel, refund and relist the sofas. You may have to wait til he agrees to the cancellation by responding to a message from Ebay but there is a time limit on this if he decides not to respond. 100% feedback as a buyer is meaningless as you can't give neg feedback to buyers so all buyers are 100%.
Best of luck
PS Ebay are a waste of time as a seller they only help buyers, sellers don't count
In laws have said if he can't collect then they will have no choice but to put them on their driveway and ask council to pick up. Then I'll have to refund him.
HE, has caused you to lose this sale, him alone. I really don't see why he should get the money or understand why you think he should. If it's because you feel sorry for him, offer him say 50% without prejudice, take it or leave it.
