At last...my Broadband is up and running once more. As an ex-BT engineer, I was able to drill down and get it fixed sooner rather than later. The problem was in the Exchange apparently, as I thought all along. A very Happy Bunny lives here again !

Well done, I wonder if you ever bumped into Craft?
It helps to have contacts. It also means one might be able to get confirmation that there is a genuine exchange or whatever problem, instead of being subjected to the, "Are you sure you want to go ahead with this as we'll charge you if the issue is with your property, now go away and don't bother us", tactic.

Well, it was obvious that there was a "network" problem, as I swapped my router with next doors. Mine worked in there but theirs didn't work in my house, a simple fact that the chappie from BT, in Mumbai seemed unable to grasp !

I have now found out that a card had gone faulty in the Exchange, and about 20 others were affected as well. I spoke to a friend who was in charge of the staff that went and fixed it !

But BT nearly charged me £129 for someone to come to my house !

I was an Engineer from the age of 17 in 1970 till 1994, so I may have met craft ! It would be interesting to know where craft worked.
Well done Mikey. I'm impressed by the range of experiences- BT engineer and financial adviser.

FF...yes, quite a mix over the years !

I was 41 in 1994 and BT offered me a redundancy package and I took the money and ran. BT had changed very much since my earlier days, and I no longer enjoyed going to work.

I was never happier than I was in the 70's, when I had a bright yellow Comma van, driving around the countryside, fitting 'phones in peoples houses. I then went into the Exchange and worked as a maintenance Engineer, which I also enjoyed. But the last 3 years was spent chained to a bl**dy desk and computer screen, with a daft pillock of a Boss, who used to be my apprentice !

He was next to useless when he was working with us in the Exchange. If he was left alone with anything remotely sharp, he would be found within 10 mins with it sticking out of him somewhere, bleeding copiously. He spent more time in the First Aid room then he did working. But he found his position in life when he was made a Manager, as it involved no practical skills whatsoever. Trouble is, his man-management skills were not unlike his skills with a screwdriver...ie bl**dy hopeless !

The job as a Financial Adviser was OK to start with but quickly went downhill. In the last 3 years up until 2008, I was put under more and more pressure to mis-sell dodgy financial products, and I left screaming in 2008 !

I am nearly sane now.
well done Mikey
