Hi all

I have an X reg Ford Focus Zetec (1.8) which has two problems. I'm not sure if they're related so need advice.

The first is that when I slow down to stop, my car stalls and therefore the power steering shuts down. This is happening at about 20 miles an hour! I have had a new part fitted (don't ask me what it's called) and it was supposed to resolve the problem but its still doing it but inconsistently.

Secondly whilst driving I lose some power (noticeable under foot but doesnt seem to be to passengers), the speed gage drops to zero, stays like this for up to 5 mins at a time and then flicks back up to the right speed, has a little power surge through and my radio gets louder. Any suggestions?

What are these faults and are they related?!

No. 1:
It's probably the idle control valve causing the problem but, if that's the part that's been fitted, the reference in this thread to air getting into the fuel line might be worth investigating:

Not a clue. (A poltergeist, perhaps). But a bit of googling suggests that some cars rely upon the ABS sensor to sends a signal to the speedometer which might (together with the other problems) indicate an ABS fault (???)
I think you should check the fuel filter for prob 1.
