I was walking across a British Telecom yard, and a chap called Dave came towards me, weeping, and said Lennon was dead. He went home sick. strange thing was, He was only 18 years old, so not really brought up with the beatles.

Yes. I remember it vividly. I was a student too. It was a newsreader on Radio 1 and his exact words were "And the shock news this morning is that John Lennon has been shot dead in New York". I was working for the House of Fraser in Cardiff and had just found out I was expecting my first baby. My husband was a fan of Wings and had all their albums but he had never really bothered about Lennon. Oddly enough, my eldest son has been a huge Beatles fan and particularly a Lennon fan since the age of 11.
