I have recently been told that not only is it illegal to have a satnav (or mobile) stuck to the windscreen of a car, but to leave the circular mark left by the suction cup is also. Does anybody know if there is any truth in this, because as far as I'm aware all satnav's are supplied with this type mounting?

Soundfs bunkum to me, but I suppose 90% (arbitrary figure) of sat nav users could be breaking the law.
if the satnav obscured the drivers view, i'm sure it could be true. However, who puts their satnav right in the middle of their view?
Also, whoever told you this probably meant either that it's not a good idea tp leave the circular mark because theives see it and know you have a satnav in the car or that if a mark was so large it obscured your view it was illegal (and stupid)
My daughter and son-in-law once saw a woman driver who had her satnav in her windscreen right in front of her face!
It applies to the 'swept area' of the windscreen, the bit covered by the wipers movement, as regards mounting the Satnav, never heard it applied to the circles though.
i know someone who recently had an MOT failure(s) and one of the the problems was the sat nav stuck to the screen...i hasten to add there were other issues.
the circle is just a smear - how can it possibly be illegal?
I have see someone on the M25 with the Satnav smack in the middle in front of them.

There is a police car outstde my house with 2 police officers in it and it has a sat nav on the windscreen.
I was also stopped a year ago by the police really for going a bit slow.
My car had a local number but I was not local.
I had a sat nav on the windscreen and the police officers did not tell me to take it off.
Oh sorry the police car has just gone.
Oddly enough, Hassler, I've heard Honda Jazz drivers are more likely to be stopped for slow driving.
Hi factor30

I do not drive a Honda Jazz.

Do you drive a Honda Jazz?.
No i don't have one, but oddly enough several new posters on the Law section recently spoke in glowing terms about them
I did have a Honda but it was a Civic
Sorry to digress, reward4615- I was just responding to Hastler's post
