My car won't start, dead as a dodo and the only other person I know who could jump start it her car is off the road waiting for a new head gasket which is being replaced later and it supposed to be me picking her up in my car when she takes it to Thr garage later.

Two dead cars and my breakdown service doesn't cover home start. They want £110 to come out.

I'm in a bad mood. I need to go out!

(a) get home start next time
(b) walk

Next problem please...
Wouldn't one of your neighbours help you out with a jump ( oooh mrs ) Evian.
Try your local garage - they'll be cheaper than a breakdown company for a one off jump start, especially if they can sell you a new battery.
If it's just a flat battery (and not an automatic) just go outside and ask some guys to give you a push.

It's totally dead, not even a dash board light comes on.

Neighbours are about as useful as I would be in this situation and I cant get through to the local garage. It's a bank holiday after all.

I've put an appeal on Facebook in the hope I know someone nice enough to come to m rescue.
maybe one of your 7 million friends will give you a poke?
incidentally - have you checked that the battery leads are properly connected? When I've had flat batteries they've always wheezed a bit before conking out, rather than just dropping dead. Sorry if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs here.
ummmmmm, Poke, Jump where is this thread heading lol.
I find it hard to believe that no-one round where you live would be willing to either give you a push or sort you with a car and jump leads if you asked nicely.

Jno, you're going wayyyyyy beyond my knowledge. Between me and my dad we can't even work out how to get the engine cover off.
where are you ?
Evian, when you turn the key do you get a clicking sound ?.
WD40 might help. First section under stalled car engines.

In Oxfordshire.

When I turn they key I get nothing. No clicking, no,lights, no sound of any sort. Nothing! Central locking doesn't work either. Luckily I hadn't locked it last night.
Evian, open the bonnet disconnect the battery ( red = positive, black = negative ). Disconnect the red one first then the black one, and then reconnect the battery ( in the opposite order ). Make sure the connectors are tight on the battery terminals. It is unusual for a battery to be that dead that it doesn't even make the starter motor solenoid click. Could be an earth fault.
How far is your friend from you Evian? if its a short distance can she not come around take the battery off her car & put in place of your own, start your car then transfer the battery's ( Yes it can be done) If you decide to do this make sure you have the Radio Code of your friends car before you start.
Out of curiosity what car is it.
Question Author
I looked at it tony but I can't for the life of me even get the cover off.
Question Author
We don't know enough to do that TWR.

It's a 53 Golf.
Evian, have look a the cover you will probably see some plastic screw type things ( prob 3 or 4 ) or clips, if they are the screw type just give them a turn ( you can probably do this with a coin ) then the cover should just lift of.
